Air India prepares for fog season with new measures to reduce flight delays

Air India has significantly ramped up its operational readiness to mitigate passenger inconvenience and enhance safety during the impending fog season across northern India, particularly at its primary hub in Delhi. The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has officially designated the period from December 10, 2025, to February 10, 2026, as the official fog window, prompting the carrier's comprehensive preparedness.

The airline's initiatives include robust CAT III B crew rostering, ensuring an adequate supply of flight crews trained for low visibility operations. Concurrently, Air India is deploying CAT III B-certified aircraft, capable of landing in challenging weather conditions, at strategic locations prone to fog impact. These proactive measures are supported by strengthened internal standard operating procedures and the availability of standby crews for exigencies.

Furthermore, Air India has activated its 'Fog Care' initiative, a tech-enabled system designed to identify flights likely to be affected by meteorological forecasts. This system facilitates proactive alerts to passengers regarding potential delays or schedule changes. Under 'Fog Care', passengers are offered complimentary rescheduling or full refunds without penalty. The airline is also ensuring adequate ground support teams, providing care packages with refreshments, and monitoring delays with regular announcements to rebook impacted passengers on alternative flights.
