Belize anticipates significant airline seat capacity growth by 2026

Belize is actively pursuing air development initiatives, connecting to 23 cities across 7 countries and now served by 14 airlines. This strategic expansion aims to bolster the nation's tourism sector by continuously enhancing its air accessibility and overall seat capacity.

While 2024 saw a total of 626,000 airline seats into Belize, a slight softening is anticipated for 2025, with projections indicating 604,387 seats. This minor decrease is primarily attributed to American Airlines' decision to reduce some capacity from its Miami and Charlotte routes, a move likely made to optimize revenue on other routes within its network.

Despite the temporary dip, 2026 is poised to be a landmark year for Belizean air travel. The country is estimating a record-breaking 651,529 airline seats, representing the highest capacity ever achieved. The addition of new carriers, such as Spirit Airlines, plays a crucial role in this projected growth, diversifying the airline landscape and offering more options for travelers.

Belize's Director of Tourism, Evan Tillett, emphasized the ongoing commitment to air development, highlighting the significant progress made in attracting new airlines and expanding connectivity. These efforts are fundamental to supporting the sustained growth of Belize's tourism industry, ensuring greater access for international visitors and strengthening the local economy.
