Dense fog impacts IndiGo flights; Indian MoCA mandates strict passenger norms.
Key Points

- 2Delhi IGI Airport initiated Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) but reported that all flight operations were functioning normally despite the weather.
- 3The Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation directed all airlines to strictly adhere to passenger facilitation norms, including timely refunds and meals, during fog-related delays.
- 4The Indian DGCA is tasked with monitoring airlines' compliance with mandatory passenger support rules during weather disruptions.
IndiGo and Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport issued urgent travel advisories early Saturday, citing dense fog and low visibility conditions impacting flight services across northern India. IndiGo specifically noted that schedules at Ranchi, Jammu, and Hindon Airports could be affected, urging passengers to monitor flight status updates closely. While Delhi IGI confirmed that Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) were in progress, the airport stated that all flight operations were currently functioning normally, advising passengers to contact their respective carriers for the latest status.
In response to the prevailing weather disruptions, the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) directed airlines to strictly comply with passenger facilitation norms. These directives, aimed at ensuring passenger safety and convenience, include the provision of timely and accurate flight information, meals and refreshments for extended delays, and rebooking or full refunds in the event of cancellations.
The MoCA also emphasized the need for assistance during flight diversions and support for persons with disabilities. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been tasked with ensuring the uniform implementation and close monitoring of these compliance measures across all scheduled carriers operating within the region.
