Dense Fog Snarls Bangalore Flights: IndiGo Issues Urgent Travel Advisory
Key Points
- 1IndiGo issued a travel advisory on Thursday due to dense fog and low visibility impacting flight schedules at Bangalore airport.
- 2The disruption is part of a wider industry challenge during the DGCA's official 'winter fog window' (December 10 to February 10), which requires CAT-III operations.
- 3The airline confirmed operational stability ahead of the holiday season while preparing for the Airbus A321XLR delivery and the launch of non-stop Athens flights in January 2026.
The airline IndiGo on Thursday issued a travel advisory for passengers. It warned of flight schedule impacts due to dense fog and low visibility over Bangalore. The advisory urged all travellers to monitor their flight status updates through official channels.
IndiGo stated it is closely watching the weather conditions. The airline is working to ensure safe and smooth travel for its customers. The carrier acknowledged that low visibility over #Bangalore has impacted flight schedules.
Industry-Wide Weather Disruptions
This advisory comes amid wider dense fog flight disruptions across the Indian aviation sector. The weather severely affects operations, especially in northern and eastern India. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has designated December 10 to February 10 as the official “winter fog window”.
During this period, airlines must follow Low Visibility Procedures (LVP). These procedures begin when visibility drops below 800 meters. Airlines must use Category-III (CAT-III) compliant aircraft. They must also roster pilots trained for CAT-IIIB operations. This technology allows for landings in very low visibility conditions. On Thursday, IndiGo cancelled 67 flights across multiple airports, including Bangalore, due to adverse weather. This highlights the operational challenge of the fog season.
Operational Stability and Fleet Expansion
Despite the weather challenges, IndiGo confirmed its focus on Indian aviation operational stability. The airline stated it has been carrying over one million customers every three-day period. This confirms its readiness to cater to the surge in holiday season passenger demand. The carrier noted that operations were effectively managed under the circumstances.
IndiGo also looked ahead to its fleet expansion plans. The airline is preparing to receive India's first Airbus A321XLR delivery by the end of 2025. This new long-range narrowbody jet will redefine medium-to-long haul flying. IndiGo plans to use the Airbus A321XLR to connect Delhi and Mumbai with Athens. These non-stop services are scheduled to begin on January 23, 2026. This is a major step in the airline's international network growth.
