Bong Quintana, a former Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight attendant from the late 1980s to late 1990s, has successfully transitioned into an academic career. Since December 2023, Quintana has been a faculty member at the Eulogio "Amang" Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST), where he teaches event management and quality service management to undergraduate students in the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM). This career shift highlights a common path for aviation professionals leveraging their extensive industry experience in education.
Quintana recently served as a project leader and resource person for a significant two-day seminar, "Public Speaking and Basic Flight Attendant Training." Organized by EARIST's CHTM through its regional extension program, the event was a collaborative effort with Kabankalan Catholic College, Inc. (KCC)-College of Management, Accountancy and Tourism (CMAT) in Negros Occidental. This marked a historic milestone as EARIST's first regional extension project of its kind, demonstrating a commitment to broader educational outreach.
The seminar's first day focused on "Public Speaking: Mastering the Art of Talk," attracting 150 participants from various academic programs, including BS Tourism Management and BSED English. Quintana, alongside CHTM Dean Maria Rhoda Dinaga and other faculty, facilitated interactive sessions, live demonstrations, and hands-on exercises. These sessions aimed to equip students with crucial communication and professional skills directly applicable to future careers within the dynamic hospitality and tourism industry.
