Guwahati Airport Soars: 7.01 Million Passengers Mark 2025 Growth Milestone
Guwahati's LGBI Airport, managed by AAHL, handled a record 7.01 million passengers in 2025, driven by new international routes and a surge in cargo volume.

Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport (LGBI), Guwahati, achieved a major operational milestone in 2025. The Guwahati LGBI Airport passenger footfall reached an impressive 7.01 million passengers 2025, according to the airport operator. This figure highlights the airport's rising significance in the region.

The total passenger volume included 3.5 million domestic arrivals and 3.4 million domestic departures. International traffic also saw a notable rise, with 45,423 arrivals and 45,474 departures recorded. This strong performance follows a fiscal year (FY) 2024-25, which saw 6.57 million passengers and 7.67% growth.

International Connectivity and Traffic

LGBI Airport, managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), expanded its international route network expansion during the year. The airport introduced direct flights to Singapore Bangkok Paro, boosting international passenger numbers. This growth aligns with broader Indian aviation trends, as noted by the DGCA.

Aircraft Traffic Movements (ATMs) also increased substantially. The airport handled 47,550 domestic ATMs and 1,000 international ATMs. On October 5, the airport set a single-day record, managing 22,089 passengers, including transit travellers. An airport spokesperson stated this infrastructure development milestone enables seamless handling of increased volumes.

Record Cargo Handling Volume

Cargo operations cemented the airport’s role as a Northeast India aviation hub. The total Guwahati airport cargo handling volume for the year reached 32,990 metric tonnes (MT). This represents a significant jump from the 12,893 MT handled in the previous fiscal year.

Key Cargo Milestones

The GIAL Cargo Terminal achieved several new records in December 2025.

  • Highest-ever monthly volume: 1,362 MT.
  • Highest-ever single-day tonnage: 60 MT on December 22.
  • Perishable cargo volume reached 374 MT in December alone.

This growth in cargo volume underscores the airport’s emerging role as a critical logistics gateway. The increase supports regional trade and commerce, connecting Northeast India to global supply chains. Sustained growth is vital for the region's economic development, a priority for industry bodies like IATA.

The airport remains dedicated to delivering exceptional travel experiences. It is cementing its position as a premier Gateway to Northeast India for both passengers and cargo. For more commercial aviation news and industry updates, visit flying.flights.
