IndiGo's operational crisis continues, causing hundreds of flight cancellations across major Indian airports.

Key Points

  • 1IndiGo's operational crisis has led to flight cancellations for ten consecutive days since December 2, 2025.
  • 2Hundreds of IndiGo flights were cancelled on December 11, including 60 in Bengaluru, 36 in Chennai, and 18 in Ahmedabad.
  • 3The Indian DGCA summoned IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers amidst the crisis, with the Delhi High Court criticizing delayed action.
  • 4IndiGo offered Rs 10,000 travel vouchers to affected passengers, targeting over 1,950 flights on December 11.

IndiGo's operational crisis extended into its tenth consecutive day on December 11, 2025, resulting in widespread flight cancellations across India. The airline, facing challenges due to staff shortages and new crew regulations, continued to disrupt travel plans for thousands of passengers despite CEO Pieter Elbers' claims of operations returning to normalcy. The Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has summoned Elbers and other senior officials for a meeting, while the Delhi High Court has criticized the Centre's delayed intervention and the opportunistic surge in airfares by other carriers.

On Thursday, December 11, significant cancellations were reported at several major Indian airports. Chennai Airport saw 36 IndiGo flights cancelled, Bengaluru Airport experienced 60 cancellations (32 arrivals, 28 departures), and Goa International Airport reported 7 affected flights. Additionally, Coimbatore International Airport had 6 cancellations, and Ahmedabad Airport recorded 18 (9 arrivals, 9 departures). These figures follow approximately 220 cancellations on Wednesday across Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, with Delhi alone accounting for 137.

In response to the ongoing disruptions, IndiGo announced travel vouchers worth Rs 10,000 for customers severely impacted between December 3 and December 5, supplementing existing government compensation guidelines. The airline stated its aim to operate over 1,950 flights on Thursday, connecting 138 destinations. Meanwhile, average airfares on key routes like Delhi-Bengaluru surged to around ",20,000, with some airlines charging up to ",28,000, prompting judicial scrutiny over market exploitation during the crisis. Tiruchirappalli International Airport, however, confirmed that all its IndiGo flight operations had resumed.
