MSC Air Cargo Takes Delivery of First Boeing 777F in 2026, Fueling Expansion.

MSC Air Cargo received the first Boeing 777 freighter of 2026 in Everett, Washington, signaling its continued aggressive expansion in the global air cargo sector.

Key Takeaways

  • MSC Air Cargo received the first Boeing 777 Freighter of 2026 on January 14, marking a key production milestone for the manufacturer.
  • The new aircraft, registered I-MSCB, is the second newbuild 777F under MSC's European AOC, supporting expansion on Asia–Europe corridors.
  • MSC Air Cargo's total 777F fleet is set to expand to seven aircraft in 2026, combining new deliveries and ACMI-operated jets.
  • The 777F program faces a 2028 regulatory challenge, prompting Boeing to seek FAA exemptions until the 777-8F successor is ready.

The first 777F 2026 delivery has been completed by Boeing.

MSC Air Cargo expansion efforts continue into the new year. The carrier received the Boeing 777 freighter delivery on January 14, 2026. The handover took place at a formal ceremony in Everett, Washington. This delivery marks a significant milestone for the global shipping giant.

Key Delivery Details

The new widebody cargo aircraft is the second newbuild 777F for the carrier’s European Air Operator Certificate (AOC). It is registered as I-MSCB Bellatrix. The aircraft departed Everett (PAE) for Milan (MXP) shortly after the delivery.

This delivery is part of MSC Air Cargo’s strategy to build a dedicated freighter fleet. The company, which launched operations in late 2022, is quickly growing. The MSC Air Cargo expansion plan will see its fleet grow to seven Boeing 777 freighters in 2026. This total includes four 777Fs operated by Atlas Air under a long-term ACMI agreement. The carrier has one more Boeing 777 freighter delivery on order with the manufacturer.

The 777F’s Role in Global Cargo

The Boeing 777 freighter delivery supports growth on key Asia–Europe corridors. The twin-engine freighter is known for its efficiency and high capacity. It is considered the most fuel-efficient aircraft in its class.

This added long-haul freighter capacity allows MSC to expand specialized services. These include transporting high-value and time-critical goods. Examples are pharmaceutical, automotive, and high-tech cargo. The new aircraft aligns with the MSC Group’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals. It offers reduced emissions per tonne of cargo compared to older models.

Industry Context and Challenges

The global air cargo market remains strong for dedicated freighters. Boeing reported an unfilled order backlog of 52 Boeing 777 Freighters as of late 2025. The manufacturer delivered 35 aircraft of this type during 2025.

However, the 777F model faces a regulatory challenge. New international fuel-efficiency rules are set to take effect in 2028. Boeing has petitioned the FAA for exemptions for the 777F. This is due to delays in the next-generation successor, the 777-8F regulatory challenge. The 777-8F is not expected to be available before the 2028 deadline. This situation highlights the sustained, urgent demand for the current widebody cargo aircraft.
