Star Air becomes the first regional carrier to initiate commercial flight operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport starting December 25.

Key Points

  • 1Star Air will be the first regional carrier to launch commercial operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport starting December 25.
  • 2Initial services utilize the Embraer 175 aircraft, connecting NMIA to four regional cities: Ahmedabad, Goa (Mopa), Bengaluru, and Nanded.
  • 3The launch signifies the commencement of commercial flights at NMIA, a facility developed by Adani Airport Holdings and CIDCO.
  • 4Ticket prices for the inaugural flights start from Rs 3,600 to Rs 5,100, focusing on expanding regional travel options for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Star Air, a regional airline under the Sanjay Ghodawat Group, is poised to become the inaugural regional carrier operating commercial services from the new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) beginning December 25. This launch marks the first set of commercial flights for NMIA, significantly expanding air travel access for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The airline will deploy its Embraer 175 aircraft fleet to service four initial routes connecting Navi Mumbai with key regional destinations: Ahmedabad, Goa (Mopa), Bengaluru, and Nanded. Some itineraries will include stopovers, such as the service to Bengaluru routed via Goa and the Nanded flight via Ahmedabad. Star Air's CEO, Captain Simran Singh Tiwana, emphasized that this move aligns with the company's core mission of enhancing regional connectivity and linking smaller cities to major hubs, thereby fostering new opportunities for trade and tourism.

NMIA is a major infrastructure project developed through a partnership between Adani Airport Holdings (74% stake) and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO, 26% stake). While Star Air is the first to launch, major Indian carriers including IndiGo, Akasa Air, and the Air India Group have already confirmed plans to commence operations from NMIA once the facility is fully operational, signaling its importance as a future hub for Western India.
