  • 1Telangana CM urges Indian PM Modi to designate Bengaluru-Hyderabad as a key aerospace and defense corridor.
  • 2Hyderabad solidifies its position as a major MRO and aero engine hub, attracting Boeing, Airbus, and Safran investments.
  • 3Safran's new LEAP engine MRO facility in Hyderabad will create over 1,000 skilled jobs.
  • 4Telangana government invests in skill development, upgrading ITIs for advanced aerospace manufacturing.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has formally appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to officially declare the Bengaluru-Hyderabad region as a dedicated defence and aerospace corridor. This strategic move, articulated during the inauguration of French firm Safran's LEAP engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in Hyderabad, aims to significantly contribute to India's 'Viksit Bharat' development objectives by fostering growth in a critical industrial sector.

Hyderabad has rapidly emerged as a prominent MRO and aero engine hub within India, attracting substantial investments from leading global aerospace entities. The region currently hosts over 25 major international companies and 1,500 MSMEs, including industry giants like Safran, Boeing, Airbus, Tata, and Bharat Forge, which have established manufacturing and research and development operations. Telangana's aerospace and defence exports have seen remarkable growth, doubling last year to reach ₹30,742 crore in nine months, surpassing pharmaceutical exports for the first time.

The new Safran facility, the first LEAP engine MRO centre in India, is poised to create over 1,000 jobs for skilled technicians and engineers, while also generating new business opportunities for local MSMEs. The Telangana government is actively supporting this expansion by focusing on developing a highly skilled workforce. Initiatives include upgrading 100 industrial training institutes (ITIs) into Advanced Technology Centres in partnership with Tata Technologies, specifically preparing young professionals for advanced manufacturing roles, including specialized aircraft maintenance training.

Further demonstrating its commitment to industrial development, the Chief Minister also extended an invitation to the Prime Minister and Safran leadership for the Telangana Rising 2047 Global Summit. This event is scheduled to take place at the proposed Bharat Future City, a 30,000-acre Net Zero development envisioned as India's answer to global economic powerhouses like New York, Tokyo, and Dubai, further solidifying the state's long-term vision for economic and technological leadership.
