This growth reflects the continued strong demand for air travel, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field are key North Texas travel hubs. DFW is the central hub for American Airlines, its largest globally. Dallas Love Field is the headquarters for Southwest Airlines. Southwest controls 18 of the airport's 20 gates.

DFW International Airport is a major global gateway. It was the third-busiest airport worldwide in 2024 by passenger traffic.

The new destinations are Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport in Virginia, with twice-daily service, and Lincoln Airport in Nebraska, with once-daily service.

New International Destinations

The carrier is also expanding its transatlantic offerings. American will launch seasonal service to Zurich, Switzerland, starting May 21, 2026. Seasonal flights to Athens, Greece, also begin on May 21, 2026. These additions align with a broader industry focus on premium long-haul routes.
