Which Airlines Added New England to Bay Area Flights for the Super Bowl?

JetBlue, United, and American Airlines are significantly increasing capacity between New England and the Bay Area for Super Bowl LX, with United using special Boston-themed flight numbers.

Major US carriers are significantly boosting New England Bay Area flights. This comes as the New England Patriots secured a spot in Super Bowl LX. The game is scheduled for February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Super Bowl flight increases are being led by JetBlue, United, and American Airlines. They are adding service to both San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and San José Mineta International Airport (SJC). SJC is located just five miles from the stadium. This surge highlights the increased airline capacity needed for major sporting events.

JetBlue Leads the Charge

JetBlue is the official airline of the New England Patriots. The carrier added 10 extra nonstop flights between New England and San Francisco. This includes a special nonstop flight from Providence, Rhode Island (PVD). This PVD route is not a regularly scheduled service. In total, JetBlue Super Bowl service will operate 28 nonstop departures. These flights will run from New England to San Francisco between February 5 and February 9. JetBlue President Marty St. George noted the strong demand. He stated the airline is proud to help fans travel for these moments.

United's Creative Flight Numbers

United Airlines is also adding New England Bay Area flights. The carrier added two nonstop flights from Boston. One route is Boston to SJC, and the other is Boston to SFO. United had some fun with the flight designations. The Boston to San Francisco flight is designated "UA 617". This is a nod to Boston’s area code. The Boston to San José flight is designated "UA 218". This number pays homage to the 218-foot height of the Gillette Stadium Lighthouse. This use of United Airlines flight numbers is a common industry practice. Airlines use them to connect with fans and key markets. Fans are encouraged to book early due to high demand.

American Airlines Capacity Boost

American Airlines is also heavily investing in the route. The carrier added two special flights from Boston to San José. American Airlines reported an increase in operations of more than 450%. They added over 90 roundtrip flights to their schedule for the Super Bowl week. This massive commercial aviation schedule changes adds significant seats. American is adding 10,000 more seats on routes to SJC alone. The goal is to meet the surge in fan travel demand. Other carriers like Delta and Alaska Airlines are also adding flights. They are servicing both the New England and Seattle markets. The San Francisco International Airport and SJC expect a major increase in passenger traffic.
