Why Air Peace is Shifting All Regional Operations to Daytime Flights
Key Points
- 1Nigeria's Air Peace will end all night-time regional services, transitioning to a full daytime flight schedule effective February 2, 2026.
- 2The change is driven by the need for improved schedule reliability, better on-time performance, and stronger connectivity to night-time long-haul departures.
- 3New routes include Lagos-Abidjan-Dakar-Banjul and Lagos-Accra-Monrovia-Freetown, reinforcing West African air connectivity.
- 4The move supports intra-African trade tourism amid a regional push for growth, with African air traffic projected to grow by 7% in 2025.
Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, is implementing a major change to its Air Peace regional operations. The carrier will transition all regional services from night-time to a daytime flight schedule. This operational shift is set to begin on February 2, 2026. The airline’s goal is to enhance passenger convenience and boost operational reliability. The move also aims to offer more competitive schedules for travelers.
Operational Shift and New Routes
Air Peace spokesperson Efe Osifo-Whiskey confirmed the new strategy. The airline is effectively scraps night regional flights to align schedules. This alignment allows for smoother connections with onward domestic and long-haul departures. The optimized schedule gives Air Peace a strong competitive advantage. This move reinforces its role as a key enabler of mobility. The new timetable is designed to better support business, government, and leisure travel. The transition will enhance passenger comfort and travel experience. It will also improve on-time performance for the carrier.
Key Schedule Details
- A new regional daytime schedule will cover the Lagos–Abidjan–Dakar–Banjul–Dakar–Abidjan–Lagos route. These flights will operate every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They will depart Lagos at 7:00 am and return by 9:40 pm.
- Services on the Lagos–Accra–Roberts International Airport (Monrovia)–Freetown–Roberts International–Accra–Lagos route will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. These flights will leave Lagos at 8:00 am and arrive back at 7:25 pm.
- Daily Lagos–Accra–Lagos flights will continue with morning departures. Additional evening frequencies will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Boosting West African Air Connectivity
This strategic change supports intra-African trade tourism across West and Central Africa. The West African air connectivity market is poised for significant growth. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) projects African air traffic will grow by 7% in 2025. This growth highlights the importance of reliable, well-timed services.
Air Peace’s decision comes as regional bodies push for market liberalization. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is working to cut aviation taxes and fees. These reforms, starting in January 2026, aim to make air travel more affordable. This regulatory push will complement Air Peace’s move to offer a more competitive product. The airline's focus on improved schedule reliability is a critical factor for business travelers. This is a key development in commercial aviation news for the region.
