Why did Aviation Capital Group just commit to 50 new Boeing 737 MAX jets?
Aviation Capital Group (ACG) has placed a firm order with Boeing for 50 737 MAX jets, including 25 737-8 and 25 737-10 models, signaling strong confidence in the narrowbody market.

Key Points

  • 1Aviation Capital Group ordered 50 Boeing 737 MAX jets (25 737-8s, 25 737-10s).
  • 2The deal increases ACG's total 737 MAX order book to 121 aircraft.
  • 3ACG now holds the largest lessor order for the uncertified 737-10 model (50 firm jets).
  • 4Deliveries for the new aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2032 and 2033.

Aviation Capital Group (ACG) has finalized a major order with Boeing for 50 737 MAX aircraft. This significant commitment from the airplane lessor Aviation Capital reinforces demand for the narrowbody aircraft market. The order is evenly split between two variants. It includes 25 of the 737-8 model and 25 of the larger 737-10 model.

This transaction increases ACG’s total Boeing 737 MAX jets order book to 121 aircraft. The new 50 737 MAX aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2032 and 2033. ACG noted it can offer customers delivery positions from 2026 to 2033.

Strategic Order Details

ACG is one of the world's premier aircraft asset managers. It manages approximately 470 owned and committed aircraft for about 90 airlines. The latest Aviation Capital Group order supports a key part of its growth strategy. The lessor aims to provide its global customers with fuel-efficient technology.

Thomas Baker, ACG’s CEO, highlighted the versatility of the new jets. The 737-8 can seat up to 189 passengers. The larger 737-10 can carry up to 230 passengers. Both models use LEAP-1B engines from CFM International. On average, the 737 MAX reduces fuel use and carbon emissions by 20%.

Market Confidence and 737-10

The deal provides a strong vote of confidence for the 737 MAX program. Lessors have ordered nearly 1,300 737 MAX jets to date. This represents about one-fifth of the total Boeing's MAX backlog. The aircraft leasing industry plays a central role in fleet renewal.

The commitment to the 737-10 is especially notable. This variant is the largest in the 737 MAX family. However, the 737-10 is still pending full certification by the FAA. With this order, ACG now holds the largest backlog for the 737-10 of any lessor. This move reflects ACG’s trust in the aircraft’s appeal to its global clientele.

Brad McMullen, a Boeing Senior Vice President, praised the repeat order. He noted the 737-8 and 737-10 are key to the narrowbody aircraft market. Airlines worldwide are seeking models with lower operating costs. The order helps reinforce market confidence in Boeing’s core single-aisle program. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) continues to report strong demand for efficient jets.
