- 3Designed to handle heavy cargo aircraft, this upgraded airfield segment also provides an essential additional evacuation route for enhanced safety.
Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) has officially commissioned a newly renovated section of its main runway (MTWY) and Taxiway Alpha (TWY A), a critical infrastructure upgrade that had been out of operation since the 1970s. The extensive renovation project encompassed approximately 53,200 square meters, spanning a 1,400-meter length and 38-meter width from Apron 1 to Taxiway Alpha.
This significant development is poised to substantially enhance the airport's operational efficiency and ground movement capabilities. The activation of this section is projected to increase the total number of aircraft movements by approximately 35%, effectively reducing congestion and allowing Zvartnots Airport to serve a greater volume of flights. Furthermore, the upgraded infrastructure is specifically designed to accommodate heavy cargo aircraft and provides an additional evacuation route, bolstering safety and operational flexibility.
The commissioning of this renovated runway and taxiway segment represents a key milestone within Zvartnots Airport's ongoing comprehensive development program. This broader initiative is strategically aimed at ensuring a high-quality and comfortable travel experience for all passengers utilizing Armenia's primary international gateway.
