Key Points
- 1Air India and Air Canada reignite codeshare agreement, effective December 2, 2025, boosting India-Canada travel.
- 2Air India expands reach to 6 new Canadian cities; Air Canada gains seamless access to 5 Indian domestic hubs.
- 3Over 2 million annual travelers benefit from single ticketing, unified baggage, and loyalty program advantages.
Air India and Air Canada have officially reinstated their codeshare agreement, a strategic move set to significantly enhance air travel connectivity between India and Canada. Effective December 2, 2025, this renewed partnership, leveraging their shared Star Alliance membership, aims to provide passengers with expanded flight options and a more seamless travel experience across both nations. The collaboration addresses the substantial demand from over two million people who travel between India and Canada annually for family, education, and business purposes.
Under the terms of the agreement, Air India gains access to six key Canadian destinations beyond its existing gateways in Vancouver and London-Heathrow. These include Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montréal, and Halifax, allowing Air India to place its 'AI' designator code on Air Canada-operated flights. Conversely, Air Canada customers will benefit from streamlined domestic connectivity within India, accessing cities such as Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kochi via Delhi, and also reaching Delhi and Mumbai through London-Heathrow. This reciprocal arrangement optimizes route networks for both carriers.
Passengers traveling on itineraries combining flights from both airlines will experience several tangible advantages. These include the convenience of a single ticket, a unified baggage allowance across their journey, and the continued ability to earn and redeem frequent flyer points or miles with either airline. Furthermore, elite status holders of Air India’s Maharaja Club loyalty program will retain their Star Alliance Gold benefits on Air Canada-operated flights, encompassing priority services, additional baggage allowance, and complimentary airport lounge access. This reinstatement underscores both airlines' commitment to delivering comprehensive global travel solutions.
