Alaska Airlines is set to make history in 2026 by launching its inaugural transatlantic services, marking the first time the carrier will operate flights across the Atlantic. The new daily, year-round service from Seattle to London Heathrow (LHR) begins on May 21, 2026, with round-trip fares starting from $699. This route will have a flight time of approximately nine hours and 20 minutes to London and nine hours and 50 minutes for the return leg. Additionally, Alaska Airlines will introduce a new daily seasonal service from Seattle to Rome starting April 28, 2026, with fares from $599, and daily seasonal flights to Reykjavik, Iceland, from May 28, 2026, priced from $699.
The London and Rome services will be operated by widebody Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, featuring a distinctive green livery. The seven-and-a-half-hour Seattle-Reykjavik service will utilize Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft, which Alaska Airlines states are designed for long-range flying. These new routes place Alaska Airlines in direct competition with established carriers; the London route competes with British Airways, Delta, and Virgin Atlantic, while the Rome service will compete with Delta for nonstop fares. Icelandair currently offers the only nonstop Seattle-Reykjavik flights.
Passengers on the Dreamliner business class cabin will experience 34 suites equipped with privacy doors, fully lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, 18-inch monitors, noise-reducing headsets, and wireless charging. Premium economy and economy class travelers will be offered "chef-inspired meals," complimentary beer and wine, Filson blankets, and comfort kits featuring Salt & Stone products. Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci emphasized that these "bold moves" accelerate the airline's vision to connect guests to the world, aiming to redefine and elevate the international travel experience.
