Assam CM Sarma Seeks More Emergency Landing Strips and Four New Airports.

Assam is boosting its aviation infrastructure. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wants more safety. He wrote to the central government. He asked for more emergency landing facilities (ELFs).

This request follows a historic event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Moran ELF. This facility is in the Dibrugarh district. It is the first in the Northeast. A C-130J aircraft made the first landing. The Indian Air Force will use this strip. It helps with military and relief work.

Expanding Regional Air Connectivity

Assam plans to build four new airports. These will be in Majuli and Diphu. Other sites include Umrangso and Manas. The state will sign a deal soon. This deal is with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

They will study if these sites work. This study starts in March 2026. The goal is better regional travel. It also supports the UDAN scheme. New airports help local tourism grow. They also create many new jobs.

Strategic Security and Disaster Relief
