Key Points

  • 1Navi Mumbai International Airport in India was inaugurated on October 8, 2025, with commercial flights starting December 25, featuring 23 daily departures and large MRO facilities.
  • 2India also completed the Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge, and the New Pamban Bridge, its first vertical-lift sea bridge, in 2025.

  • 4The Grand Egyptian Museum opened in November 2025, becoming the world's largest museum and housing over 100,000 artifacts, including Tutankhamun's tomb contents.

The year 2025 marked a significant period for global infrastructure development, with several long-anticipated projects reaching completion. Among these transformative undertakings, the Navi Mumbai International Airport in India stands out as a crucial addition to the commercial aviation landscape, promising enhanced connectivity and operational capacity. Other notable milestones included record-breaking bridges and a world-class museum, collectively redefining urban growth and regional links.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the Navi Mumbai International Airport on October 8, 2025, with commercial flight operations scheduled to commence on December 25. Initially, the airport will facilitate 23 scheduled daily departures. Designed with distinctive architectural elements, including 12 sculptural columns resembling lotus petals and 17 mega columns supporting a lotus-shaped roof, the facility also boasts India's largest aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities, positioning it as a key hub for aviation services in the region.

Beyond aviation, 2025 saw the completion of other engineering marvels. India's Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge at 359 meters, was inaugurated in June as part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link. In China, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, unveiled on September 28, became the world's tallest bridge, drastically reducing travel time across the canyon. Cultural infrastructure also saw a major boost with the Grand Egyptian Museum opening near the Giza Pyramid Complex in November, showcasing over 100,000 artifacts, including the complete Tutankhamun collection. Additionally, India's New Pamban Bridge, the country's first vertical-lift sea bridge, was inaugurated in April, connecting Rameswaram Island with the mainland.
