IndiGo, India's largest airline, has announced a comprehensive compensation program for passengers severely impacted by operational disruptions and mass flight cancellations that occurred between December 3 and 9, 2025. The airline stated it expects payouts to exceed ₹500 crore, covering customers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure or who were stranded for extended periods at airports like Delhi and Bengaluru.
The airline is currently expediting all refunds throughout December 2025, with most already processed. A structured compensation initiative is slated to begin in January 2026, focusing on transparency and ease for affected travelers. This commitment follows a period of severe operational turbulence, primarily caused by a significant crew shortage that led to the grounding of approximately 160 flights and widespread chaos across major Indian airports.
Prior to this announcement, IndiGo had offered travel vouchers worth ₹10,000 to impacted passengers, redeemable within 12 months, in addition to government-mandated compensation. The airline also waived rescheduling and self-cancellation charges until December 15, 2025, to provide flexibility. The crisis prompted intervention from the Indian Centre, which ordered a high-level probe and directed IndiGo to initiate automatic refunds for all cancelled flights.
