InterCaribbean Airways has officially commenced scheduled flights to the Eugene F. Correia International Airport (Ogle) in Guyana, originating from Barbados. This new service complements the carrier's existing operations to Cheddi Jagan International Airport (Timehri) and directly responds to customer demand for a more centrally located airport.
The launch was marked by the dedication of the airline's specially painted “Spirit of Guyana” aircraft. This distinctive aircraft prominently features the Guyanese flag on its tail and bears the name “Spirit of Guyana” on its nose, celebrating the nation’s heritage as it serves routes across the InterCaribbean network. Lyndon Gardiner, Founder and Chairman of InterCaribbean Airways, emphasized that this expansion fulfills a promise made to Guyana, noting the airline's strategic decision to expand into the Southern Caribbean, including Guyana in December 2021, during the challenging 2020 global pandemic when many carriers were reducing services.
Guyana's Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar, lauded the airline's expanded service, highlighting its positive impact on the country's aviation and tourism sectors. He specifically praised the “Spirit of Guyana” aircraft for promoting the nation's image across the Caribbean, particularly among the Guyanese diaspora. InterCaribbean Airways currently serves 28 destinations across 17 countries, with Roraima Airways providing ground handling services at Ogle Airport.
