Malaysia Airlines has significantly enhanced its Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL) service, increasing frequency to daily flights from its previous five-day-a-week schedule. Effective December 2, 2025, this upgrade aims to provide greater convenience and more travel options for passengers from Kerala, particularly benefiting from competitive fares. Kuala Lumpur serves as a critical transit hub, offering extensive onward connectivity to destinations across Australia and New Zealand.
The expanded Malaysia Airlines operation is expected to boost passenger traffic at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, managed by TRV (Kerala) International Airport Limited. With this addition, the TRV-KUL route now features a total of 11 weekly flights, comprising seven by Malaysia Airlines and four by AirAsia, underscoring the growing demand for direct connections to the Malaysian capital.
This service enhancement aligns with Thiruvananthapuram International Airport's broader Winter Schedule 2025, which commenced on October 26, 2025, and runs until March 28, 2026. The airport has reported a substantial 22 percent increase in weekly Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) under the new schedule, rising to 732 from 600 in the preceding Summer 2025 schedule. This expansion highlights TRV's increasing prominence as a preferred gateway for both domestic and international carriers.
International flight operations at TRV are projected to grow by 9 percent, reaching 326 weekly ATMs from 300, with Kuala Lumpur being a key international connection alongside major routes to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai. Domestic services will see an even more significant 35 percent surge, increasing from 300 to 406 weekly ATMs, driven by enhanced frequencies to major Indian cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai, and new routes to Navi Mumbai, Mangaluru, and Trichy. A TRV Airport spokesperson affirmed the airport's growing importance and commitment to regional mobility and economic growth through enhanced connectivity.
