The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Indian Customs department at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai recently arrested three individuals following a significant drug seizure. The operation led to the confiscation of cannabis with an estimated street value of approximately Rs 13 crore (around 1.5 million USD).
The initial interception occurred when AIU officials apprehended Shabbir Akbarali Daudi upon his arrival from Bangkok via a Thai Lion Airlines flight on Friday. Subsequent investigations by the Indian authorities led to the arrest of two additional suspects involved in the illicit trafficking operation. This incident underscores the continuous efforts by Indian Customs to enhance aviation security and combat drug smuggling through major international air hubs.
