Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar is on the cusp of commencing operations, with a target launch date of December 15. This significant infrastructure project, poised to alleviate pressure on Delhi Airport, recently saw Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conduct a high-level review of its progress. The visit underscored the advanced stage of development and the final preparations underway for its inauguration.
A crucial step towards operational readiness is securing the aerodrome license from India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This final regulatory approval is anticipated by December 4, following a mandatory security inspection by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Chief Minister Adityanath held meetings with key officials from various aviation bodies, including the Civil Aviation Ministry, DGCA, BCAS, CISF, and Airport Authority of India, directing urgent coordination to complete all pending compliance work.
Developed under a public-private partnership by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, NIA's first phase encompasses approximately 1,300 hectares. This initial stage will feature one runway and a state-of-the-art terminal building, designed to handle initial passenger operations. The airport's strategic location in the Delhi-NCR region is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity and economic activity.
Upon its full completion across four phases, the Noida International Airport is projected to span nearly 5,000 hectares, establishing itself as India's largest airport by area. This ambitious expansion will dramatically increase air travel capacity for the region, offering enhanced services and operational efficiency. The project represents a major leap in India's civil aviation infrastructure, promising long-term benefits for both domestic and international air traffic.
