Noida International Airport is on the cusp of receiving its crucial aerodrome license from the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), marking the final phase before its anticipated inauguration. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is preparing to submit its comprehensive security inspection report to the DGCA. Officials anticipate the license could be issued as early as December 4, contingent on the DGCA's satisfaction with the BCAS findings, paving the way for the airport's launch within a week of approval.
Shailendra Bhatia, nodal officer for Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), confirmed that BCAS teams conducted a thorough two-day review of the airport's high-end security infrastructure. This included detailed assessments of baggage and passenger screening systems, CCTV surveillance, access control points, perimeter security, anti-hijacking mechanisms, bomb disposal infrastructure, and 3D radar systems. Bhatia stated that all security systems were deemed effective, and the first phase of construction, encompassing the runway, taxiways, terminal building, and parking facilities across 1,334 hectares, has been successfully completed. Key technical trials, such as baggage handling, boarding processes, security checks, and passenger management protocols, have also been concluded.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the project's progress on November 27, urging officials to accelerate remaining work and the licensing process. Initially, the airport will commence operations with domestic passenger flights and cargo services, with international flights and additional facilities slated for subsequent developmental phases. The new airport is projected to significantly alleviate air traffic congestion at existing airports in Western Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi-National Capital Region, simultaneously fostering substantial employment and business growth across the region.
