A Ryanair service, flight FR7031 traveling from Faro, Portugal, to Dublin, Ireland, was forced to divert to Cork Airport on December 15 following an alleged incident involving a highly intoxicated passenger. Authorities stated that the individual, identified as a Dublin man, was observed lying across row 27 and subsequently became increasingly aggressive toward the crew and other passengers. The captain, Bryan Quinn, made the decision to divert the flight to Cork due to the escalating behavior.
Gardaí from Togher responded to requests for assistance from Cork Airport Police upon the aircraft's arrival at 12:45 pm. Sergeant John Dineen reported that the passenger resisted officers who boarded the plane and had to be physically restrained and handcuffed before being removed from the aircraft. The man faces charges under the Air Navigation and Transport Act, including being intoxicated to an extent that would endanger himself or others, and engaging in seriously offensive behavior after being requested to desist by cabin crew.
Appearing before Cork District Court, the man was remanded in custody with consent to bail pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Judge Mary Dorgan imposed stringent bail conditions, recognizing the seriousness of the charges. These conditions include lodging €500 of a €1,500 bond, surrendering his passport, signing on three times weekly at Ballymun Garda station, maintaining sober habits, and a specific prohibition against flying with Ryanair.
