Two Spirit Airlines employees, including a supervisor, have been charged with petit theft following the alleged theft of a passenger’s $505 Louis Vuitton wristlet at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The defendants are 49-year-old supervisor Olukunle Idowu, who has pleaded not guilty, and 56-year-old Hyacinth Linton, who has not yet entered a plea. According to Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest reports, surveillance cameras recorded the incident on October 22, showing Idowu retrieving the wristlet from a gate drawer, checking the contents, and then handing it to Linton, who placed it in her backpack before they both exited the area.
Idowu was also linked to a separate incident involving the disappearance of a $300 Technics headphone charging case left behind by a Spirit Gold Club member on an earlier flight. After the frequent flier was repeatedly unable to retrieve the item from baggage claim, it was revealed that a Spirit employee had given the case to his manager, identified as “Olu” (Idowu). This occurred shortly before Idowu’s arrest in November. The airline’s guest care agent was reportedly unaware of the supervisor’s arrest when corresponding with the passenger on November 25.
Spirit Airlines confirmed that it is aware of the November charges and is conducting a thorough investigation. One employee has been suspended without pay, and the other is on a leave of absence. While the Gold member still has not recovered the charging case, Spirit recently agreed to reimburse him for the $300 retail cost of the lost property.
