IndiGo cancelled 562 flights from six major Indian metro airports on Monday, December 8, with Bengaluru experiencing the highest number of disruptions at 150 cancellations. This widespread operational impact follows hundreds of flight cancellations since the previous Tuesday, attributed to recent regulatory changes affecting the carrier's schedule. The airline is actively working to restore normalcy amidst significant passenger inconvenience.
Specific cancellations included 76 arrivals and 74 departures from Bengaluru, 83 departures and 60 arrivals from Delhi, and 98 services (50 arrivals, 48 departures) at Mumbai. Hyderabad saw 112 cancellations, while Chennai had 56. Only two flights were cancelled at Kolkata Airport. The total number of cancellations exceeded the Indian Civil Aviation Ministry's projection of 500 services for Monday, as the ministry had anticipated IndiGo would operate 1,802 flights.
Despite the ongoing challenges, IndiGo's on-time performance showed an improvement to 79.9 percent on Sunday, when it managed to operate 1,650 flights while cancelling 650. The airline, a dominant domestic carrier controlled by Rahul Bhatia, operates to approximately 90 domestic and over 40 international airports, highlighting the broad scope of these disruptions.
