IndiGo Airlines has confirmed its strong operational stability ahead of the busy holiday travel season. The airline is currently operating between 2,100 and 2,200 flights daily. This massive scale of operations is moving over 1 million customers every three days. The carrier serves all 138 operational destinations across its network.

This confirmation of holiday season preparedness follows recent disruptions. The Indian aviation sector faced challenges from dense fog, especially in northern India. IndiGo also stabilized operations after an earlier period of scheduling difficulties. The airline had reduced its winter schedule by 10% to comply with a Ministry of Civil Aviation directive. The focus remains on reliability during the harsher winter forecasts.

Future Fleet and Network Expansion

Looking ahead, IndiGo is preparing for a major fleet upgrade. The airline is set to welcome India's first Airbus A321XLR. This new aircraft will redefine medium-to-long haul flying for Indian travelers. The A321XLR boasts an extended range. This capability allows non-stop flights to Southern Europe from India.

New International Routes

IndiGo has announced the inaugural routes for its new long-range narrowbody Airbus jet. The A321XLR will be used for connecting Delhi and Mumbai with Athens, Greece. Flights are scheduled to begin on January 23, 2026. This marks a significant step in the airline's international expansion strategy.

The A321XLR will feature a two-class layout. It includes 12 premium seats, branded as 'IndiGoStretch'. The aircraft will also carry 183 passengers in Economy Class. This new offering signals a shift for the traditionally low-cost carrier. The airline is also evaluating additional domestic and international destinations. Industry stakeholders view this as a pivotal moment for Indian commercial aviation news and long-haul travel. The A321XLR will bridge the gap between IndiGo's current fleet and its forthcoming Airbus A350 services.
