International Air Cargo Services Resume at Vizag Airport After Pandemic Halt
International air cargo services have resumed at Vizag Airport in India after being halted due to the pandemic, providing relief to exporters and industries in the region.

Key Points

  • 1International air cargo services resume at Vizag Airport after a pandemic-related suspension.
  • 2The resumption is expected to benefit exporters and industries in the Visakhapatnam region.
  • 3IndiGo and Singapore Airlines are expected to commence dedicated cargo services.
  • 4Two international passenger flights are currently operating from Vizag to Singapore and Abu Dhabi.

Visakhapatnam Airport in India has resumed international air cargo operations, ending a suspension that began during the Covid-19 pandemic. The announcement was made by civil aviation minister K. Ramohan Naidu at the 30th CII Partnership Summit. This resumption is expected to significantly benefit pharmaceutical companies in the Pharma Park, textile manufacturers, and businesses within the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ), who previously had to route shipments through Hyderabad and Chennai airports.

Two international passenger flights currently operate from Vizag to Singapore and Abu Dhabi with high occupancy rates. IndiGo and Singapore Airlines are anticipated to introduce dedicated cargo services soon, further enhancing Visakhapatnam’s global connectivity. The Andhra Pradesh Air Travellers Association (APATA) has acknowledged the efforts of Vizag MP Sribharat and Minister Ramohan in facilitating this development.

APATA representatives have urged air cargo handlers and logistics operators to fully utilize the restored facility. They emphasize that this resumption presents an opportunity to strengthen Visakhapatnam’s global connectivity and improve the ease of doing business for industries in the region. The resumption of cargo services marks a significant step in the airport's recovery and expansion of its international operations.
