- 3Noida International Airport (Jewar) is in its final construction stage, with BCAS having recently completed security examinations.
- 4The new rapid rail line is projected to significantly slash travel times across the National Capital Region (NCR).
The Indian government is advancing plans for a new Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) route designed to significantly reduce travel times across the National Capital Region (NCR) by directly connecting Delhi to the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar. This initiative follows a revision of an earlier proposal by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEDIA).
Initially, the Namo Bharat line was slated to link Ghaziabad's Siddhart Vihar to Jewar Airport. However, the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry intervened, instructing the NCRTC to revise the plan due to its limited benefit for passengers from Noida and Delhi, and an undesirable overlap with the existing Aqua Line metro. The revised route will now originate from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi, traversing through Noida City Centre and Surajpur in Greater Noida before reaching Jewar. Yamuna Authority ACEO Shailendra Bhatia confirmed the new alignment, emphasizing its direct connectivity to the national capital.
The Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, is nearing completion, with its first phase of construction having commenced in 2022. Last month, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) conducted a security standards examination, a crucial step before the airport receives its operational license. Strategically positioned, the airport is approximately 72 km from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, 40 km from Noida, and 28 km from Greater Noida, enhancing regional accessibility.
